Disney’s Encanto wowed audiences with its story of the Madrigal family, who are (almost) all gifted with unique powers, and how they faced the threat of their gifts fading away. Each family member has a superhuman quality, from extreme strength to shapeshifting. All, seemingly, except Mirabel. So we’re diving into all the Encanto characters and their powers, along with how these gifts impact their relationships with each other.
Despite lacking magical powers like her family, Mirabel’s ability to change the course of her family’s future makes her something of an anti-hero.
Each character’s power, or lack thereof, offers a window into their deeper qualities as well—from their vulnerability, to passion, and the pursuit of self-discovery. Now let’s get to know each of the Encanto characters!
The Family Madrigal
The Madrigal family lives in a magical house, Casita, blessed by a miracle. It is through the power of the Encanto that each generation is gifted with a unique talent. Every family member contributes their magic to maintain their special connection with each other and their community.
Mirabel Madrigal
Mirabel Madrigal is the heart of Encanto. Unlike her relatives, she was not blessed with a magical gift on her fifth birthday. The absence of a magical gift fuels her to search for her place within her family and the community. Determined and empathetic, Mirabel’s gift lies in her ability to see the world through a lens that is uniquely her own. While her family may not have understood why she was never given a power, seeing her impact on the family made it clear she is as stabilizing a force as The Miracle Candle.

Being herself | Julieta and Agustín | Stephanie Beatriz |
Abuela Alma Madrigal
Abuela Alma is the matriarch of the family and the keeper of their miracle. Her wisdom and deep-rooted sense of responsibility toward her family’s safety and prosperity shape the traditions they uphold. Alma’s gift is that of foresight, bearing the weight of the future on her shoulders, and often unable to relinquish control—an attribute that brings both solace and strain to her loved ones.
Power/Gift | Children | Voice Actor |
Keeper of the miracle | Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno | María Cecilia Botero |
Julieta Madrigal
Julieta Madrigal has the uncanny ability to infuse her meals with healing properties. We see this when she easily fixes her husband, Agustín’s, symptoms from an allergic reaction. She also has a nurturing presence in the family and cares for everyone’s best interest, especially those of her daughters.
Power/Gift | Children | Voice Actor |
Healing through food | Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel | Angie Cepeda |
Agustín Madrigal
Agustín Madrigal is the lovable and affable guy who married Julieta—which also means he does not posses a magical gift. His endearing clumsiness is only outdone by his devotion to his wife and daughters. Agustín’s protectiveness comes into play when he attempts to shield Mirabel from the fallout of her part in Bruno’s vision.
Character Trait | Children | Voice Actor |
Friendly and clumsy | Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel | Wilmer Valderrama |
Isabela Madrigal
Isabela Madrigal is the perfectionist of the family—whether that’s her nature or it was nutured via her gift, we can only speculate. Her power allows her to grow flowers in an instant. Initially concealing her true emotions, Isabela’s learns that true strength lies in accepting and expressing her imperfections. We also see her power adapt as a result of this growth when she surprises herself by growing a prickly cactus instead of a beautiful flower.
Power/Gift | Parents | Voice Actor |
Growing flowers | Julieta and Agustín | Diane Guererro |
Luisa Madrigal
The first-born Madrigal sister, Luisa, possesses superhuman strength. But the weight of her own power and her family’s expectations rest heavily on her (undeniably) strong shoulders. Luisa is a pillar of strength, but as the magic wanes, so does her spirit. Her character arc is one of the most compelling, as she learns that even she, the strong one, can lean on others for support.
Power/Gift | Parents | Voice Actor |
Physical strength | Julieta and Agustín | Jessica Darrow |
Pepa Madrigal
Pepa Madrigal personifies the family’s emotional storms as well as the literal ones. Her ability to change the weather with her emotions is often a reflection of her own inner turbulence. Beneath her frequently stormy facade lies a deep and constant love for her family.
Power/Gift | Children | Voice Actor |
Can change the weather | Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio | Carolina Gaitán |
Félix Madrigal
Félix Madrigal brings stability to the family dynamic, and also acts as the calm in Pepa’s storms. He may not be one of the Encanto characters with an awesome power, but his life-of-the-party demeanor and devotion to Pepa more than makes up for it.
Character Trait | Children | Voice Actor |
Laid back | Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio | Mauro Castillo |
Dolores Madrigal
Senstive and perceptive, Dolores Madrigal has the gift of super hearing—meaning there’s no secret or story that gets past her, whether she wants to hear it or not. Sometimes knowing too much can be daunting, making Dolores feel overwhelmed. She’s also a romantic. But while she’s ready to find love, she isn’t willing to rush into anything either!
Character Trait | Parents | Voice Actor |
Super hearing | Pepa and Félix | Adassa |
Camilo Madrigal
Camilo Madrigal has the most visually impressive power—shapeshifting! He sometimes even uses his ability to entertain others. Despite the initial superficiality of his gift, Camilo holds a deep admiration for his family.
Character Trait | Parents | Voice Actor |
Shapeshifting | Pepa and Félix | Rhenzy Feliz |
Antonio Madrigal
Antonio Madrigal, the youngest of the Encanto characters, has the cutest gift in the Madrigal household. He can communicate with animals—even wild ones! He amasses quite the wealth of pets: Chispi the capybara, Parce the jaguar, Pico the toucan, tapirs, coatis, and more. The moment Antonio is given his gift also marks Mirabel as officially having been passed over when it comes to her receiving a gift.
Character Trait | Parents | Voice Actor |
Communicates with animals | Pepa and Félix | Ravi Cabot-Conyers |
Bruno Madrigal
Bruno Madrigal’s mysterious disappearance is shrouded in his gift of seeing the future. This power has isolated him from his family, who fears the potential disaster he might reveal in his visions. His unexpected reappearance propels the story and forces the Madrigals to confront their fears and the truth about themselves.

Sees the future | Abuela Alma | John Leguizamo |
