Get ready to scream with joy! A brand new Monsters, Inc. land is set to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. This exciting announcement came during Disney’s 2024 D23 Expo and promises to bring Monstropolis to life, complete with a groundbreaking attraction that will have visitors zooming through the movie’s iconic door vault.
A Monstrous Addition to the Park
The new Monsters, Inc. Land will be a fully immersive experience, allowing guests to step into the world of Sulley and Mike. Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, shared the thrilling news with a little help from Disney Legend Billy Crystal.
“In this new land, humans have been invited to Monstropolis,” D’Amaro explained, “As part of this experience you’re going to tour the Laugh Factory.”
Crystal retorted with a quippy “Did you clear that with HR?”
Suspended in Laughter: A First-of-its-Kind Coaster
The crown jewel of this new land will be a revolutionary suspended door coaster—the first of its kind in any Disney park. This cutting-edge attraction will send guests soaring through the massive door vault, just like in the movie.
“Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride,” D’Amaro shared.
A New Chapter for Hollywood Studios
Monsters, Inc. Land’s location within Disney’s Hollywood Studios hasn’t been identified yet, but it appears this will be expanding the park’s footprint. This addition is part of Disney’s ongoing commitment to bringing beloved stories to life in their parks.
When Does Monsters, Inc. Land Open
While exact opening dates haven’t been announced, Disney has confirmed that construction on the project is slated to begin in 2025. This gives fans plenty of time to re-watch their favorite Monsters, Inc. movies and shows before they start planning their future visits.
