Descendants, the popular Disney Channel Original Movie franchise, tells the musical and fantasy-filled adventures of the offspring of famous Disney heroes and villains. With the release of the fourth installment, the cast of Descendants: The Rise of Red features some familiar faces along with new ones. Viewers have been left curious about the mysterious new Descendants character Morgie Le Fay. So just who is Morgie from Descendants?
Meet Morgana Le Fay
To understand Morgie, we first need to introduce his mother, Morgana.
Morgana Le Fay, also sometimes called Morgan Le Fay, is the most feared and powerful sorceress in all of Camelot. While the infamous witch doesn’t appear in Descendants: The Rise of Red, she has appeared throughout several different King Arthur-related media throughout the decades, such as The Kid Who Would Be King, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and The Adventures of Merlin. She’s even darkened doorsteps in Marvel’s Runaways with plans to rule over the world.
Morgana is seen by many as the ultimate magical being who is on par with Merlin the wizard, King Arthur’s most trusted advisor.
Get to Know Morgie Le Fay
The Descendants franchise doesn’t just rely on Disney characters to tell propel their stories, but also characters from the legends of King Arthur and the descendants of those characters.
Morgie Le Fay, son of Morgana Le Fay, is one such Arthurian-inspired character.
In the film, Red and Chloe Charming travel back 30 years to the past to save Red’s mother, the Queen of Hearts, from turning into an evil villainess hellbent on executing Cinderella. Upon arriving in the past, Red and Chloe meet up with Uliana, the Regina George of Merlin Academy, flanked by her villainous posse, including Morgie Le Fay.
Morgie has strong dark magic which he uses to become snake-like and manipulate energy. However, throughout the movie, Morgie doesn’t get a chance to show his full potential as a wizard. The mischievous Morgie is actually the strongest out of his peers, even Uliana. His rich and magical lineage perfectly sets him up to become a force to be reckoned with.
With Morgana’s past showing her out to destroy Camelot using all forms of black magic including necromancy and nature manipulation, this makes for a heavy legacy for young Morgie to carry on. Though it appears the young trickster has had time to hone his abilities, and perhaps in the future, he will be plotting something wicked for his former classmates.
King Arthurian Characters in Future Descendants Projects
Morgie could be the first of many new Camelot-based characters joining Descendants. The lore of King Arthur exists in Descendants with the region of Camelot Heights being the location for both Camelot and Pendragon Castles. The franchise has yet to cast Morgana, King Arthur, Queen Guinevere, Lancelot, or any Knight of the Round Table.
Fans only got a taste of Morgana’s magic through her son Morgie using a few fancy eye tricks. If Disney decides to continue making more Descendants films, Morgana and her son Morgie could make an incredible mother-and-son villain duo for the next installment. There is so much potential for a big-time crossover between Descendants heroes and villains from the world of King Arthur.
