Chuuby is a little bird flying onto the scene as one of the newest Disney characters to appear at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. But who is this orange bird that appears in Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway? Let’s take a look at who Chuuby is and how he got here.

A New Ride Replaces a Great (Movie) Ride

At the D23 Expo in 2017, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway was announced as one of the new attractions coming to Walt Disney World. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway would replace The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, making its opening debut on March 4, 2020. The ride would later open in the newly reimagined Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland on January 27, 2023.

This historic attraction would mark the first time Mickey and Minnie are the stars of a ride at a Disney park, and this ride is bursting with classic Disney characters! Goofy plays engineer and Donald loses his cool (again). You can even find nods to Disney characters we don’t often see at Disney Parks. Max Goof and and his buddies from A Goofy Movie are just one of these gems. You can spot them on a poster parodying High School Musical in the foyer of El CapiTOON at Disneyland.

Featured among these Disney characters with icon status and cult followings is a new Disney character, Chuuby! The adorable orange bird who’s ready to entertain. Chuuby is a songbird whose antics make our heart sing! With his lovable face and charismatic personality, you can’t help but wonder if Chuuby could someday join the ranks of the iconic Disney characters and garner a cult following all his own.

History of Chuuby

Walt Disney Imagineer Kevin Rafferty shows off the Runaway Railway mouse ears he designed as part of the Disney Parks Designer Collection Ear Hat. Image: D23.com

Chuuby was developed as a new character especially for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Chuuby’s role in the ride was first imagined as a background part. Walt Disney Imagineer Kevin Rafferty, Executive Creative Director for the attraction, described needing more action in a scene. The solution? Chuuby was given the spotlight with a larger role. Additionally, Chuuby was originally planned to be named Chubby. It wasn’t until a typo swapping the double b’s for double u’s that the name Chuuby was born. And it stuck! After all, a bird after our attention surely needs a name to match.

How Do You Pronounce Chuuby

Chuuby is pronounced “choo-bee.” If you want a trick to remember, just think of riding a “choo choo train with Chuuby.”

Where Can You See Chuuby
